RENO, Nev. (AP) - The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a jail inmate.

The inmate’s name is being withheld until his family is notified.

Authorities say the inmate was found unresponsive in his jail cell at the county detention facility Saturday afternoon.

The Reno Gazette Journal reports sheriff’s deputies discovered the inmate alone in his cell.

They say he was last seen during a regular cell check.

Deputies and jail medical staff immediately began lifesaving efforts, but the inmate was declared dead at the scene.

The county Regional Medical Examiner’s Office is trying to determine the cause of death.
