INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indianapolis Fire Department officials say a firefighter recruit has died in a four-vehicle traffic accident in Hancock County.

Fire officials say 26-year-old David R. Short II died Friday evening in the crash near Indianapolis Regional Airport. Officials say Short and his girlfriend were traveling on a roadway when a collision occurred ahead of them. The collision forced a truck into Short’s path, colliding with his vehicle. Short’s car went off the road and rolled over.

Investigators don’t believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the cause of the crash. The fire department says in a new release that it “appears to be a horrible and tragic accident.”
