YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) - Six young children and five adults have been hospitalized after they were found in a Westchester County home, suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Authorities say a father came home to the Yonkers apartment on Friday morning and could not awaken family members.
The fire department and ambulances responded, providing oxygen masks for the victims who were struggling to breathe. Yonkers Fire Assistant Chief Thomas Fitzpatrick says the carbon monoxide level could have been lethal over more hours.
The two-story building was evacuated.
The cause is under investigation, but Con Edison says the problem may have been caused by a faulty boiler.
