PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a fleeing theft suspect was struck and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 10 while running to try to avoid capture.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson says the suspect had been a passenger in a stolen car that crashed Wednesday night after getting off the freeway.
Thompson says police arrested the 22-year-old driver after the crash but the passenger ran off and was seen by a pursuing officer to be running toward the freeway where he was struck.
No identities were released.
Westbound I-10 was closed for several hours before it was reopened early Thursday morning.
Police said the car used by the suspects was stolen earlier Wednesday night.
