BUTTE, Mont. (AP) - Officials say activity at a southwestern Montana gold mine soon will end and employees will be laid off at the end of September.
The Montana Standard reports that Golden Sunlight General Manager Dan Banghart said Wednesday that mining will come to a close at the end of the month.
Banghart says there will be some milling activity in May at the mine just northeast of Whitehall, and then that too will end.
He says the company doesn’t expect a reduction in workforce until Sept. 30.
Banghart says it is not known at this point how many the company will lay off.
He says the mine, owned by Toronto-based Barrick Gold Corp., currently employs 53 people.
