FAIR LAWN, N.J. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a child struck and killed by a police cruiser in northern New Jersey.

Twelve-year-old Christian Tawadros, his brother and two friends were trying to cross several lanes of Route 208 South in Fair Lawn when Tawadros was struck near an exit ramp shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday.

The Fair Lawn resident was pronounced dead shortly after the crash.



The marked cruiser was driven by Michael Sansevere, a Bergen County sheriff’s officer who was on patrol in the area.

Sansevere was treated at a hospital for undisclosed reasons and later released. He has served with the sheriff’s office for 12 years.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
