More than two dozen liberal advocacy groups penned a letter Thursday requesting that House Democrats open an investigation into Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings last year, saying the Senate botched it.

“Many issues went unresolved during last year’s confirmation process, when Senate Republicans jettisoned all procedural norms and abandoned any sense of fairness, and they must be investigated,” the groups said in their letter.

The demand for one chamber to investigate the other is stunning, but the progressives said it was deserved. They asked the House Judiciary and Oversight committees to conduct the probe.

Among their complaints was what they said was a lack of answers on how Justice Kavanaugh was able to pay off debts, and his past writings. They said GOP senators used a partisan process — a Republican lawyer — to shield some of Justice Kavanaugh’s written records from disclosure.

The Senate confirmed the justice last October after a woman came forward publicly, launching sexual misconduct allegations dating back three decades against the nominee. Justice Kavanaugh denied any wrongdoing.

“Senate Republicans manipulated the confirmation process for Justice Kavanaugh at every turn,” the letter alleged.
