RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (AP) - A SWAT team used what appeared to be tear gas and finally rushed a car to end a standoff with a motorist in a Southern California intersection.

Armored vehicles pinned the vehicle Wednesday morning on a street in Rancho Cucamonga, 40 miles (64 kilometers) east of Los Angeles.

Deputies used the gas and flash-bang devices before pulling the driver out and dragging him away from the car.

Southern California News Group reports the incident started with a traffic stop by San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies, and a sergeant spent several hours negotiating with the driver.
