OPINION:
“Deploying military forces overseas” (Web, March 31) was appropriate for April Fools’ Day. I agree that everything discussed is probably in need of rebuilding after the devastating gutting of the military by the Obama administration. But I have a hard time with all the information outlined and attributed to Gen. Robert Brown, commander of Army forces in the Pacific.
It is somewhat foolhardy to divulge future operations’ specifics. Have our current military leaders forgotten that wise and totally accurate World War II-era saying, “Loose lips sink ships”?
Discussing future, perhaps not currently classified operations in this degree of detail could enable our enemies (anyone from terrorists to Russia and China), to develop accurate pictures of our forces that would enable them to better prepare counter-measures.
In the past The Washington Times’ editorial policies have seemed supportive of a strong military defense. This editorial seems to go directly askew of this previous path. The piece could have made the same important points without mentioning specific unit rotations and timeframes.
