BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Alabama state troopers say several passengers were injured when a University of Alabama-Birmingham bus plunged down a hill and struck a tree.

Corporal Mark A. Stone said Friday the bus crashed near Arley, about 60 miles (97 kilometers) northwest of Birmingham.

UAB spokesman Tyler Greer said the bus was carrying 26 pediatric residents from UAB hospital. The residents were returning from a retreat.

At least 10 passengers were taken to hospitals for treatment. Greer said seven were taken to UAB Hospital and three to Cullman Regional Hospital.

Stone said two passengers were seriously injured. No fatalities were reported.
