NORFOLK, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is giving away milkweed seedlings to help monarch butterflies.

The seedlings, planting instructions and other educational information will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Game and Parks’ Northeast District Office, 2201 N. 13th St.

Milkweed is the host plant for the monarch. Monarchs lay eggs only on milkweed, and milkweed is the only plant monarch caterpillars will eat. A drastic decline in the monarch population has occurred over the past 20 years.
