President Trump said Wednesday that former President Obama confided that he almost went to war with North Korea.
Mr. Obama made the admission during the transition, when he also said that nuclear-armed North Korea was one of the biggest challenges facing the country.
“He told me he was very close to going into war,” Mr. Trump said at a press conference in New York. “That could have been a world war very easily.”
Mr. Trump is planning a second meeting with North Korea leader Kim Jong-un, who committed to denuclearizing when the two leaders first met at a June summit in Singapore.
“He wants to make a deal and I want to make a deal,” said Mr. Trump. “If I wasn’t elected you would have had a war.”
