CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Police say a man has fired shots at a vehicle that had just dropped off a child at a North Carolina elementary school but hit no one.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says in a news release Monday that a man got out of a car in the parking lot of the Charlotte school, shot at another car as it left the school and fled the scene. The victim’s car collided with a car waiting at a stop sign.

Police are searching for a suspect. Detectives say that they believe the shooter knew the driver of the second car and the incident was not a random act of violence.

No children or bystanders were injured during the shooting but the school was placed on lockdown.
