AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Families who have lost loved ones in military service will have a new memorial dedicated to them.
The memorial broke ground Saturday in Augusta as dozens of gold star parents attended a dedication ceremony.
This year the Legislature approved the memorial, which workers will construct next year on the north side of Capitol Park.
The pentagon-shaped memorial will feature section for each branch of the armed forces. The memorial is the first of its kind in the state.
