DALLAS (AP) - At least one person has died and emergency personnel have conducted numerous high-water rescues as rain continues to lash parts of Texas, causing damage to homes and instances of flash flooding.
Authorities say a 23-year-old man drowned near the University of Texas at Arlington when floodwaters swept him away as he crossed a bridge. His body was recovered early Saturday.
Dallas Fire-Rescue says as many as five Dallas police officers became trapped in high water as they attempted to aid a stranded motorist.
The officers and the motorist were pulled to safety and rescuers then helped nine people in a nearby home that was inundated by floodwater.
Authorities in Williamson County, north of Austin, called for the evacuation of those living near the San Gabriel River.
