NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - Rutgers University President Robert Barchi has agreed to stay on for at least two more years at the request of the school’s board of governors.
Barchi has led the school since 2012 and oversaw the state university’s integration with the former University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Barchi also led the development of the first university-wide strategic plan in nearly 20 years.
University Board of Governors Chair Sandy Stewart says Barchi has been “remarkable” and that the school will continue to attract gifted faculty and students under his leadership.
Barchi formerly served for eight years as president of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
Rutgers’ flagship campus in New Brunswick welcomed its largest incoming class ever this year, with more than 7,000 first-year students.
