MERRIMACK, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire residents have stepped up to help as Hurricane Florence batters the Carolinas.
WMUR-TV reports first responders from the state helped rescue almost two dozen people from floodwaters over the past few days.
Other New Hampshire residents measured wind speeds and rainfall for the National Weather Service.
The Red Cross of New Hampshire has team members in the Carolinas. Volunteer Dennis Meuse says he will soon head to one of the hardest-hit areas in North Carolina to help in shelters or on the road.
New Hampshire firefighters and the Red Cross will be in the area for up to 14 days.
Florence is being blamed for at least 18 deaths since it made landfall Friday.
