RYE, N.H. (AP) - Officials say a dead juvenile whale washed ashore on a New Hampshire beach.
Authorities are working to determine what caused the death of the 16-foot, 2-ton minke whale that was found Monday morning in Rye. WMUR-TV reports lobster fishing gear was wrapped around the mammal, but it is not known if the whale became entangled in the gear before or after its death.
The whale also had shark bite marks on it, but it also isn’t yet known if that was the cause of death.
Officials said the whale will be taken off-site for a necropsy.
