LAS VEGAS (AP) - A 25-year-old woman accused of driving under the influence and slamming into another car, killing an 8-year-old boy, is now facing a murder charge.
Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson announced Friday that Aylin Alderette has been charged with second-degree murder.
Alderette, who is identified in police reports as Aylin Alvarez-Perez, was initially charged with three counts of DUI causing death or substantial bodily harm and reckless driving.
Wolfson says Alderette displayed recklessness and a “blatant disregard for human life.”
Her bail has now been raised to $1 million.
Authorities say she was driving 103 mph (166 kph) before hitting another car.
The crash killed Levi Echenique and injured his parents. Two people in a third vehicle also were hurt.
Online jail records show Alderette was still in custody Friday.
