PICAYUNE, Miss. (AP) - A south Mississippi school district says it has found the source of a natural gas leak that had prompted complaints from students, parents and others for more than a week.
Picayune Assistant Superintendent Brett Harrell tells news outlets that officials on Thursday found a leaking stove in the Roseland Park Elementary School cafeteria.
That was after a first round of repairs to pipes and fittings didn’t fix the problem.
Harrell says students and employees were never in danger because once a gas smell was detected, natural gas was turned off.
Three gas appliances were removed from the cafeteria as a precaution.
Students ate sack lunches for several days while officials were trying diagnose the problem, but Harrell says breakfast and lunch were again cooked in the cafeteria on Friday.
