“Fox & Friends” co-host Brian Kilmeade says two comedians who hounded him throughout New York City are emblematic of partisan activists who make rational discourse near impossible.
Jason Selvig and Davram Stiefler of “Good Liars” posted video last Friday of themselves haranguing the Fox co-host as he tried to make his way home via the subway. The duo eventually took the content down after a wave of negative backlash, but Mr. Kilmeade said the incident exposed a wider problem in American culture.
“There are so many people out there who are so emotional,” he told The Hollywood Reporter for an interview published Tuesday. “How much more are we willing to accept?”
The video showed the comedians trying to convince commuters that Mr. Kilmeade was a racist worthy of public ridicule, anger and scorn.
“Hey everyone, this is Brian Kilmeade, he says lots of weird, kinda racisty stuff on the news a lot,” Mr. Stiefler told passengers. “This is the closest personal adviser to Donald Trump, the ‘Fox & Friends’ host Brian Kilmeade. If you have anything you want Donald Trump to say or do, tell this guy, ’cause he’s the only person in America that Donald Trump listens to.”
Some of their rhetoric then prompted angry replies about President Trump.
“If I’m physically in danger, I can take care of myself,” the Fox co-host said. “So, that’s my philosophy. I can never picture a scenario where the way they acted is OK. So, if people think it is, I am worried about them. … They’re not comedians. There’s nothing funny about it,” he said. “The only people they’re for are Democrats, and they’ll never be for Republicans.”
He then laughed off the notion that he has undue influence on Mr. Trump.
“It has to be pretty arrogant of me to think that I can shape the president, a 70-year-old billionaire’s opinion who just shocked the world with an unfathomable victory,” he told THR. “I’m just a guy who’s lucky enough to host a great show, and knows him. I laugh when people write that. … I have a lot of respect for my opinions, but I don’t think I shape the country’s policy.”
