OPINION:
America is in serious trouble. We have reached a point in our history where the future of our nation is in jeopardy.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer promised to block any person nominated by President Trump for the U.S. Supreme Court. Then came character assassination, damaging Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s impeccable reputation and that of his family. Never before has this nation witnessed such an atrocious attempt to vilify a candidate for a high position.
Judge Kavanaugh is accused of sexual assault, which is difficult to prove or disprove. How can a person’s exemplary 30-year career be erased by an alleged sexual episode said to have occurred 36 years ago? Shouldn’t his superb reputation, government history and accolades as judge on the second-highest court count for anything?
It isn’t only this charade that is troubling, but also the partisanship brought on by Democrats unable to accept Mr. Trump’s election win. It is frightening to consider that should Democrats win control of Congress, we would experience gridlock never before seen in our history. Worse, our adversaries — such as Russia, China, Iran, the Islamic State, etc. — would consider the turmoil in Washington an opportunity to create havoc.
Journalism plays an unfortunate role in this unfolding tragedy. A majority of the Trump-hating news media has decided what the American people should know — and not know. This unwarranted hatred for an incoming president is unprecedented.
