LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas has awarded nearly $7 million in additional funding to 175 public schools as part of a program that recognizes high student performances.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson said Monday that the schools awarded the funds achieved either the top 10 percent in the state in student performance or academic growth, with some schools achieving in both categories.
Hutchinson and state Education Commissioner Johnny Key presented oversized checks to Bismarck school officials, whose district had an elementary, middle and high school each receive funds.
Key said he couldn’t “brag enough” about the performance of the Bismarck schools. Two students who spoke thanked their teachers for their work and praised Bismarck’s welcoming atmosphere.
Bismarck schools Superintendent Susan Kissire said the district would use some funds to reward both students and teachers.
