WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) - A police officer has been arrested in Virginia after authorities say he fired an AR-15 rifle in a home and barricaded himself inside.
Police told the Daily Press they believe Wednesday evening’s standoff in James City County outside Williamsburg was sparked by a domestic incident.
Police said 50-year-old Williamsburg police officer Richard Frederick Drab Jr. faces charges of shooting within an occupied dwelling, domestic assault, brandishing a firearm and reckless handling of a firearm. He was placed on administrative leave and taken to a local jail without bond.
Drab had taught a course in January on how people can defend themselves in active shooter situations. He told those attending the class that police share the same fear of active shooters as regular people. He said: “Expect us to be scared.”
