Never ceasing to miss an opportunity to monopolize a crisis, Democrats were quick to blame President Trump for the intercepted pipe bombs that targeted the likes of former President Obama and the Clinton family. Such a response is grossly inappropriate for several reasons.

First, it does nothing to bring the country together in the aftermath of the failed attacks. We need cooler heads to prevail, and the Democrats’ reaction only exacerbates an already tense situation. Second, Mr. Trump has never advocated violence against his political opponents. He may be crass at times, and he is often bombastic in his commentary, but he has never called for violence. Blaming him for this situation is foolhardy and misplaced. It is particularly rich coming from the Democrats, who have been pushing ’resistance’ against President Trump since 2016. How have they forgotten their own venomous rhetoric that has helped foment a mob-like atmosphere in the streets of America?

The political realm in America is toxic and the animosity is growing. What we need right now is unity, a singular voice that condemns political violence in all its shapes and forms. The Democratic response, however, is one of continued demonization. There is little doubt that they will now use this incident to try to swing more votes their way in the midterm elections. And by doing so, they will only cause further division and strife in our country. May cooler heads prevail.
