As has been in the news, millions of illegal aliens are invading our country. It is apparent that liberals, particularly Democrats, are for “open borders” for those who wish to come and amnesty for those already here. After all, it would mean innumerable votes for Democrats and unmitigated influence in Congress, where they could attempt to change the government into one resembling that which existed in Venezuela before its collapse.

My paternal grandparents were of German extraction. The family spoke German, and my father did not learn English until he attended school in Texas at the age of 7. He and his mother conversed in the language as long as she lived. In fact, I wished he had taught me the language, even though I likely would have had little occasion to use it. My maternal ancestors were English. (How’s that for a combination?)

The overwhelming majority of U.S. citizens are immigrants or descendants of immigrants. Consequently there undoubtedly is little antipathy toward immigrants by and large. I also believe that the existing immigration laws are supported by the majority.

On the other hand, our roadways and other infrastructure are severely overburdened, and it would be beneficial if the population were stabilized.
