TONAWANDA, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a Pakistani tourist was killed and three children were injured in a crash that shut down Interstate 290 in western New York.
The Tonawanda Police Department says 40-year-old Hamad Mir lost control of the car he was driving and struck a guardrail around 1 a.m. Monday.
Mir became pinned behind the steering wheel, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three children inside the vehicle have been hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries. An adult female passenger was hospitalized for pain, and another adult female passenger reported no injuries.
Traffic was diverted for more than four hours as police investigated the scene.
Police have yet to determine the cause of the crash.
