ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - One of the nation’s biggest convention centers is getting bigger.
Officials said Monday they planned to expand the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando by 280,000 square feet (26,012 square meters).
The convention center currently has more than 2 million square feet (185,806 square meters) of exhibit space, second in the nation only to McCormick Place in Chicago.
Even after the expansion, the Orange County Convention Center will remain No. 2.
The $605 million expansion will increase the convention center’s existing total space of 7 million square feet (650,321 square meters).
The expansion includes a 200,000-square foot (18,580 square meters) multipurpose room and an 80,000-square-foot (7,432 square meters) ballroom.
The convention center currently hosts more than 200 meetings and 1.4 million visitors each year.
