MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont architect who created a mini-park in Montpelier has launched a campaign to save it.
The Times Argus reports Ward Joyce contacted the Montpelier City Council about his plans to save the Main Street park. Joyce partnered with architecture students in 2014 to build the park.
According to Joyce, an agreement must be made with the landowner, Overlake Park, before 2019 Joyce says the city’s initial offer isn’t high enough to sway the property management company.
The city had offered $5,000 along with property taxes and other costs. City Manager Bill Fraser says Overlake Park’s offer to lease the site for $30,000 annually for a five-year period is “well above any reasonable market rate.”
Mayor Anne Watson says she will support a new park.
