PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A judge has signed a protection order barring a candidate for district attorney from having any contact with his ex-girlfriend.

The Sun Journal reports that an Auburn woman last week asked for the protection order against district attorney candidate Seth Carey. A hearing next month will determine whether the order should be made permanent.

In April, a judge put Carey on interim suspension after a permanent protection was granted to a different woman, who testified that Carey had sexually assaulted her on three occasions while she lived in a spare bedroom at his Rumford house.

Carey faces possible disbarment but he’s still on the ballot for district attorney in Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties. Carey, who won his Republican primary in June, did not immediately return an email seeking comment.
