EVANS, Colo. (AP) - A Colorado middle school teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave as authorities investigate possible mistreatment of a student.
Evans police received the report Thursday regarding an incident with a seventh-grade boy at Prairie Heights Middle School.
Police say a 13-second cellphone video taken by another student shows a female teacher taping the boy to a chair on Tuesday. The tape was wrapped several times around his torso and thighs. The teacher also is seen putting tape on his mouth, which the child immediately removed.
Police Chief Rick Brandt said Friday that no clear conclusion could be drawn from the video alone but said police launched a full investigation after conducting some interviews.
The Greeley Tribune reports the school district won’t identify the teacher until after the investigation.
