CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada Commission on Ethics has fined Storey County Sheriff Gerald Antinoro $2,500 for misusing government resources.

The commission ruled Wednesday that Antinoro was guilty of an ethics violation last year when he allowed his wife to use the sheriff’s office in Virginia City for personal use on a Saturday when the office is typically closed to the public.

The ex-husband of Antinoro’s wife filed the ethics complaint.

Antinoro said he opened the office because his wife was concerned about meeting her ex-husband for a child visitation appointment in a park in Virginia City as was originally scheduled.

Antinoro told the Reno Gazette Journal he thought the ruling was absurd.

It’s his third ethics violation since he took office in 2011.
