WOONSOCKET, R.I. (AP) - Police in Rhode Island say a 14-year-old boy brought a gun to his high school.

Authorities say a staff member at Woonsocket High School notified a school resource officer that someone spotted the student with the gun around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

The officer located the student and found an unloaded pistol and ammunition in his backpack.

Police say the student is facing multiple charges, including possession of a firearm on school grounds, underage possession of a firearm and license required to carry a pistol.

Authorities say no threats were made.

The student is being held at the state’s juvenile detention facility pending his arraignment Friday. His name has not been released due to his age.

An investigation is ongoing.
