Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke has a new mega-fan who calls him the “enlightenment” of Texas: Vicente Fox.

Mexico’s former president is wading into U.S. politics once again as midterm elections near, but the focus of his ire has shifted from President Trump to Republican Sen. Ted Cruz.

“Wow! What a candidate! What a man! Beto, you are fantastic,” Mr. Fox said in a short video posted to Twitter on Thursday. “You’re great! You’re an all-American.”

Mr. Fox said that he was impressed with the Democrat’s ability to display both “passion” and “firmness.”

“You are the enlightenment for Texas and I hope every single Mexican, Latin, every Hispanic in that great state of Texas is going to vote for you,” Mr. Fox said of the congressman. “You deserve it because you are going to respond to the hope and expectations of Texas, understanding what they need and understanding what America needs.”

Mr. Fox’s remarks come in the wake of polling that suggests a safe cushion for Mr. Cruz’s re-election bid.
