SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A teenage boy has admitted in court to causing a catastrophe in connection with a fire that burned eight homes in Moab four months ago.
The name of the teen and additional details about how the fire began haven’t been released.
Authorities say the wind-whipped fire on June 12 forced the evacuation of about 150 people and resulted in several residents and firefighters being treated for smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion.
The teen was 16 at the time of the fire and also was charged with reckless burning.
The Deseret News resports that the boy admitted Tuesday in 7th District Juvenile Court to causing a catastrophe, which is a misdemeanor.
Grand County Sheriff’s Lt. Kim Neal says the case’s disposition will take place in December.
