CANTON, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi economic development agency will sue a former county engineer over a $1.2 million airport study.
Local news outlets report that the Madison County Economic Development Authority voted Monday to include Rudy Warnock in a lawsuit over a 2013 airport study.
Attorney Skipper Jernigan, who represents the authority, said Warnock & Associates’ contract with the authority wasn’t legal. That’s because a member of the authority’s board worked for Warnock’s firm when the contract was approved. Skipper says that violates the state law creating the authority.
The agency was already suing its previous law firm which advised the agency to contract for the study, demanding the lawyers reimburse the authority for what it spent.
Jernigan says an amended lawsuit will be filed in Madison County Circuit Court in coming days.
