CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - After a windy night, thousands of homes and businesses started the day without power across New Hampshire, but utilities worked quickly to turn the lights back on.

The National Weather Service says wind speeds of more than 40 mph were recorded in multiple locations Monday night.

Eversource, the New Hampshire Electric Co-op and Unitil were working to restore power to about 6,000 customers on Tuesday morning. By Tuesday afternoon, that total had dropped to about 1,100.
