RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Virginia Division of Capitol Police says a man has been arrested after officers found him with a loaded gun outside an entrance to the Virginia Capitol.

Police tell news outlets 28-year-old Spencer Adams was arrested Monday morning on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon. Police say he had a Glock 26, which is a 9 mm handgun, in his backpack.

Police had seen Adams on a security camera and officers discovered he had an outstanding warrant when they arrived to ask him for ID.

WWBT-TV quotes Capitol Police as saying in a statement that Adams was also processed for failure to appear in court over an unrelated charge of providing a false identity to Richmond police.

It’s unclear if he has a lawyer who could comment.
