A famous comedian of a bygone era once stood before an audience and told a joke. Nobody laughed. He repeated the joke. Again nobody laughed. Puzzled, he repeated the joke again, and still nobody laughed. Undeterred by the audience’s obtuseness, he continued to repeat the joke until suddenly the audience grasped it and erupted in laughter.

The comedian’s joke brings to my mind the intransigence and obtuseness of today’s Democrats (and now, that of Republican Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona as well). They fail to understand that another FBI investigation of U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is unnecessary. Their insistence on another investigation is a bad joke.

But after the FBI’s report is complete, Judge Kavanaugh is confirmed to the Supreme Court and the midterm elections are over, perhaps Democrats will finally grasp that there is no new information in their bad joke. Fat chance. They’ll cry instead of laugh after the midterms that voters “got” it and pushed back on them at the polls.
