LOS ANGELES (AP) - James Batemon scored 11 points and Jeffery McClendon and Donald Gipson each added 10 as Loyola-Marymount opened its season with a 75-43 victory over Westcliff on Tuesday night.

The Lions shot only 35 percent but still led 34-15 at the break before heating up to 54 percent in the second 20 minutes. They dominated scoring in the paint 40-10 and had big edges in second-chance points with 17 and points off turnovers 24-9.

Westcliff got a 3-pointer from Rich Serrano for the game’s first points before the Lions responded with a 16-0 run capped by a 3-pointer from Joe Quintana on his only shot of the night. An 11-2 run to open the second half made it 45-17.



Ben Gaspar made all eight of his free throws and scored 10 points for Westcliff. Gabriel Mendez also scored 10 for the NAIA Warriors.
