FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a jogging off-duty Alabama state trooper has died after he was hit by a pickup truck.

News outlets report that 34-year-old Jason William Hewett of Florence died when he was struck by a pickup truck while jogging on a county road near Florence on Tuesday morning.

Hewett graduated from the state trooper academy in 2006 and worked in northwest Alabama.



There was no immediate word of charges, and the cause of the crash is under investigation.

The driver of the pickup truck wasn’t hurt.
