SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say the body of a hiker who was reported missing last month was found over the weekend at the base of a cliff in Alpine County.

The Alpine County Sheriff’s Office says Bradford Dozier died after falling 200 feet (60 meters) while attempting to “free climb” a cliff.

The office says 140 trained searchers were looking for Dozier when his body was found Saturday at the base of a cliff. He was reported missing on Oct. 28.

It says family and friends described him as an avid and strong hiker who enjoyed climbing peaks in the Sierras.
