PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The price of heating oil has fallen steadily in Maine even as the temperature has dropped.

The Governor’s Energy Office said on Wednesday the average statewide cash price is now $2.99, which is 2 cents less than last week. Kerosene is now $3.58 per gallon, down 2 cents from a week ago. Propane is $2.88, a penny less than last week.

Prices remain more expensive than last year, when the average heating oil price was $2.59

The energy office says global crude oil prices have retreated from four-year highs after several weeks of escalating in September and October. The office says heating fuel prices have remained mostly flat since escalating earlier in the year.
