TYLER, Texas (AP) - The family that has owned the Tyler Morning Telegraph for almost a century is selling the newspaper to a group that owns three other Texas dailies, two of them in East Texas.
Telegraph publisher Nelson Clyde announced the sale Wednesday, calling the sale to family-owned M. Roberts Media “a great thing for our staff and customers.”
The sale is to close Nov. 30. No terms have been revealed.
Longview, Texas-based M. Roberts Media also owns the dailies Longview News-Journal, Marshall News Messenger and Victoria Advocate, along with the biweekly Panola Watchman.
The T.B. Butler Publishing Co. had owned the now-defunct afternoon Tyler Courier-Times since 1910 with it launched the Morning Telegraph in 1929. The newspaper’s ancestral roots date to the 1877 launch of the weekly Courier.
