ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man has pleaded guilty to shooting and killing his foster mother.
WCAX-TV reports 34-year-old Scott Favreau entered his plea to first-degree murder Tuesday as part of a deal with prosecutors.
Favreau will be sentenced to 40 years to life in prison, with all but 30 years suspended, pending a judge’s approval.
Police say Favreau shot Vicki Campbell-Beer in 2000 when he was 17. Tashia Beer, Campbell-Beer’s husband’s daughter, was also convicted and served six years in prison for her role in the killing.
Favreau previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2002, but the judge threw out his conviction because a trial judge never asked him if he admitted to the facts of his plea.
Favreau has already served 17 years in prison.
