MOORESVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina man was injured after being shot by police who were responding to a domestic disturbance call.

News outlets report that the shooting occurred when an Iredell County sheriff’s deputy approached a house in Mooresville late Saturday.

The sheriff’s office said a man answered the door while pointing a gun at the deputy. The deputy feared for her safety and shot the man in the abdomen, according to the sheriff’s office.



The man was taken to a local hospital. Authorities did not identify him.

The deputy was not injured.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.
