LOS ANGELES (AP) - A sex-crimes detective with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has pleaded not guilty to raping a 14-year-old girl.

Neil Kimball was taken into custody last week after a months-long investigation.

The alleged attack occurred in November 2017 in Ventura County. Officials say the 45-year-old detective is with the special victims unit and met the girl while working on a case.

The Ventura County district attorney’s office says Kimball pleaded not guilty Wednesday. Prosecutors say the victim was tied or bound at the time of the alleged rape.

The Los Angeles Times says Kimball was previously investigated in 2009 after a woman claimed he grabbed her and tried to make her touch his genitals. No charges were filed in that case.
