SALEM, Mass. (AP) - A judge says a convicted bank robber would serve at least 3 1/2 years in prison if he pleads guilty to a Peabody heist in June in which he made his getaway in a cab.
Leo Willwerth was arrested June 11 after allegedly saying he had a bomb and robbing a bank in Peabody, then running to the Northshore Mall where he and a woman got a cab to Boston. The taxi was tracked to Boston and stopped.
The Salem News reports that the 32-year-old Willwerth’s lawyer asked the judge Tuesday to impose a three- to five-year prison term for the holdup, to run concurrently with a sentence he received for robbing a Boston bank.
Prosecutors asked for a longer sentence.
Willwerth is due back in court on Dec. 5.
