LAS VEGAS (AP) - Trial has been scheduled next year for a Nevada teenager charged as an adult with shooting and killing an 18-year-old student during an after-school fight at a rival school in North Las Vegas.

Attorneys for Sakai Kayin (sah-KAI’ KAI’-yin) French did not immediately respond Friday to messages after French pleaded not guilty Tuesday to murder and weapon charges in the Sept. 11 killing of Dalvin Brown.

Clark County District Court Judge Douglas Herndon scheduled trial May 14.

French was indicted Oct. 19 in the shooting during an after-school fight near the baseball field at Canyon Springs High School.

French attended rival Cheyenne High School.

Prosecutor Michael Schwartzer said the deadly confrontation came after an earlier fight involving friends of French and Brown, and multiple students witnessed the shooting.
