KINSTON, N.C. (AP) - Officials in North Carolina say a patient at an assisted living center was killed after he was hit by a car.

WITN in Greenville reports the N.C. Highway Patrol said 52-year-old James McCandless of Jacksonville was walking on N.C. Highway 11 near Pink Hill when he was struck around 2 p.m. Thursday. Troopers say the motorist was heading south on the highway as McCandless walked in the road. The impact threw McCandless into a ditch.

No charges were immediately filed against the driver.



The accident occurred less than a mile from the assisted living center where the victim lived.
